11/11

Honoring peace
Honoring lives left behind
not in fecund fields
open to air and sunlight
tended father to son,
mother to daughter.
Dust to us.
Lives not given, not shared, but taken
ripped asunder
limbs, guts, glory.
Shrieking fatherless waifs,
wailing abandoned women
Screaming bombs, squealing tanks
arms lacerated,
vision scarred
for peace, for Fatherland, for prosperity
Today, cold, raw, icy flecks
obscure a longed-for Sun.
